The Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation is awarding more than $2.5 million in 44 grants for 2008-09 scholarships and fellowships. Over $1.9 million is designated for scholarships in the current academic year, and an additional $316,000 is offered as matching challenges to build Newcombe Endowments at the funded institutions serving mature women and students with disabilities. The Foundation provided $155,000 in matching challenges to the six colleges in the program for economically disadvantaged students at Presbyterian colleges.
The 2008-09 awards bring the Foundation’s cumulative grant awards since 1981 to more than $48 million. More than 32,000 Newcombe Scholarships have been awarded at 96 universities and colleges, and 1,009 Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships have been provided through annual grants to the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation.
