Foundation Announces Grants for 2010-11 Academic Year

The Trustees of The Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation have approved forty grants for 2010-11, awarding $1,928,717 for scholarships and fellowships.

Grants totaling $1,203,500 are designated for student scholarships at thirty-seven colleges and universities. Within this total, $307,000 will be in the form of matching challenge grants to build Newcombe-endowed scholarship funds at twenty-five institutions. Additionally, the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation will receive over $725,000 to continue administration and funding of the Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships program through 2011-12.

The 2010-11 awards bring the Newcombe Foundation’s cumulative grant awards since 1981 to nearly $52 million. Based upon twenty-nine years of institutional reports to the Foundation, over 30,000 Newcombe Scholarship awards have assisted students at ninety-eight colleges and universities. Also since 1981, 1,087 Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships have been funded through annual grants to the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. At last report, Newcombe-endowed scholarship funds at fifty-nine universities and colleges had a combined market value of over $11.4 million.
