Foundation Announces Grants for 2011-12 Academic Year

The Trustees of The Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation have approved forty-three grants for 2011-12, awarding $2,180,717 for scholarships and fellowships.

Grants totaling $1,430,500 are designated for student scholarships at forty-two colleges and universities. Within this total, $488,500 will be in the form of matching challenge grants to build Newcombe-endowed scholarship funds at forty institutions. Additionally, the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation will receive over $750,000 to continue administration and funding of the Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships program through 2011-12.

The 2011-12 awards bring the Newcombe Foundation’s cumulative grant awards since 1981 to $54 million. Based upon thirty years of institutional reports to the Foundation, over 33,000 Newcombe Scholarship awards have assisted students at ninety-eight colleges and universities. Also since 1981, 1,107 Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships have been funded through annual grants to the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. At last report, Newcombe-endowed scholarship funds at fifty-eight colleges and universities had a combined market value of over $14 million.
