Foundation Announces Grants for 2012-13 Academic Year

The Trustees of The Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation have approved forty-three grants for 2012-13, awarding $2,210,060 for scholarships and fellowships.

Grants totaling $1,467,000 are designated for student scholarships at forty-two colleges and universities. Within this total, $508,000 will be in the form of matching challenge grants to build Newcombe-endowed scholarship funds at thirty-nine institutions. Additionally, the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation will receive over $740,000 to continue administration of the Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships program through 2012-13.

The 2012-13 awards bring the Newcombe Foundation’s cumulative grant awards since 1981 to $56.3 million. Based upon thirty-one years of institutional reports to the Foundation, over 35,000 Newcombe Scholarship awards have assisted students at ninety-eight colleges and universities. Also since 1981, 1,128 Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships have been funded through annual grants to the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. At last report, Newcombe-endowed scholarship funds at fifty-nine universities and colleges had a combined market value of $15.4 million and had generated $582,191 for Newcombe Scholarships in 2011-12.
