Foundation Announces Grants for 2015-16 Academic Year

The Trustees of The Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation have approved forty-three grants for 2015-16, awarding $2,339,376 for scholarships and fellowships.

Grants totaling $1,553,334 are designated for student scholarships at forty-two colleges and universities. Within this total, $596,834 will be in the form of matching challenge grants to build Newcombe-endowed scholarship funds at forty institutions. Additionally, the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation will receive $786,042 to continue administration of the Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships program through 2015-16.

The 2015-16 awards bring the Newcombe Foundation’s cumulative grant awards since 1981 to $63.3 million. Based upon thirty-four years of institutional reports to the Foundation, over 38,000 Newcombe Scholarship awards have assisted students at one hundred colleges and universities. Also since 1981, 1,194 Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships have been funded through annual grants to the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. At last report, 104 Newcombe-endowed scholarship funds at sixty universities and colleges had a combined market value of $21.5 million; these funds generated $819,000 toward Newcombe Scholarships in 2014-15.
