Foundation Announces Grants for 2014-15 Academic Year

The Trustees of The Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation have approved forty-two grants for 2014-15, awarding $2,338,661 for scholarships and fellowships.

Grants totaling $1,558,833 are designated for student scholarships at forty-one colleges and universities. Within this total, $592,833 will be in the form of matching challenge grants to build Newcombe-endowed scholarship funds at thirty-nine institutions. Additionally, the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation will receive $779,628 to continue administration of the Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships program through 2014-15.

The 2014-15 awards bring the Newcombe Foundation’s cumulative grant awards since 1981 to $60.9 million. Based upon thirty-three years of institutional reports to the Foundation, over 37,000 Newcombe Scholarship awards have assisted students at ninety-nine hundred colleges and universities. Also since 1981, 1,172 Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships have been funded through annual grants to the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. At last report, ninety-seven Newcombe-endowed scholarship funds at sixty universities and colleges had a combined market value of $19.2 million; these funds generated $721,000 toward Newcombe Scholarships in 2013-14.
