Online programs ranked among nation’s best for disabled students

Edinboro University has been celebrated many times over for its commitment to students with disabilities and has earned numerous accolades for its online programs; however, these disparate areas of acclaim have now found themselves united in one exciting new ranking.

EU has been named a top 10 school in the nation for disabled students seeking an online education by OnlineSchoolsCenter.com, a virtual publication that evaluates online learning. Higher education researcher Kenneth Williams ranks EU at No. 6 in his meticulously investigated editorial, titled “Navigating an Online Education for Students with Disabilities.”

The piece highlights the benefits and appeals of pursuing a college education online for students with a disability, paying particular attention to the accommodations provided by the ranked schools, from additional time to complete tests and coursework to adaptation/modification of course instructions and providing qualified interpreters, computer-aided transcription devices, TTY or other hardware.

“Edinboro University has worked for many years to provide access to excellent education through our quality online offerings. Web-based programs and courses for graduate and undergraduate students deliver flexible learning, and this has clear advantages for students who, because of a disability, might not be able to come to campus regularly,” said Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Michael Hannan. “We pride ourselves on the strength of our online programs and are thrilled that their benefits for several different student populations are being recognized.”

Widely recognized as one of the leading universities in the nation in providing services to students with disabilities, Edinboro University has been committed to excellence in providing access to educational opportunities for more than 40 years. The university earned recognition from Campus Safety Magazine for “Going Above and Beyond ADA Compliance,” and earlier this year hosted the 39th National Wheelchair Basketball Association Intercollegiate Division National Championships at McComb Fieldhouse, where three Fighting Scot wheelchair basketball athletes received postseason honors.
