Hal Daumé III is Director of AIM, the AI Interdisciplinary Institute at Maryland, and the Volpi-Cupal Endowed Professor of Computer Science and Language Science at the University of Maryland. He also leads TRAILS, an NSF- and NIST-funded institute focused on trustworthy AI. His research develops natural language processing systems that interact naturally with people while promoting self-efficacy and mitigating societal harms. He has received multiple best paper and test-of-time awards, served as program chair for ICML 2020 and NAACL 2013, and was an inaugural Diversity and Inclusion Co-Chair for NeurIPS 2018.
